Why ByteTecpeak electric wheelchairs come standard with a joystick on the armrest — and deliberately not with Bluetooth control

Many people looking to buy a powered wheelchair first pay attention to weight, range, or folded size. But the question of how the wheelchair is controlled in everyday use is just as important. That is exactly why ByteTecpeak powered wheelchairs come as standard with a joystick on the armrest.
This solution has proven itself in daily use. The joystick is easy to reach, easy to understand, and allows precise control by hand without any additional devices needing to be connected or charged. For many users, this is especially important because the wheelchair must not only be comfortable, but above all reliable and safe in operation.
Why a joystick on the armrest?
A fixed-mounted joystick offers several practical advantages in everyday use. The hand finds the controls quickly and intuitively, commands are implemented directly, and operation remains clear even in familiar day-to-day situations. This is especially important when starting off, turning, maneuvering indoors, or driving slowly.direct, stable input.
Another advantage is the clear positioning. The controls are always where you expect them to be. This creates routine and increases the feeling of safety, especially for people who use their powered wheelchair regularly at home, while shopping, or on short everyday trips.
Left or right? Both are possible
Not all users have the same habits or physical requirements. That is why the joystick on many ByteTecpeak models can be mounted on the left or right. If you prefer a specific side, just contact us. We will be happy to check how the right configuration can be implemented for your model.
This is especially helpful if one hand is stronger or more mobile than the other, or if the wheelchair should be adapted to the user's personal everyday needs. Our goal is not only mobility, but also a solution that is as practical and individual as possible.
Why we intentionally do not use Bluetooth control as standard
At first glance, Bluetooth control may seem modern and convenient. But with a powered wheelchair, it is not just about comfort, but above all about controlled and safe movement. That is exactly why we do not use Bluetooth as the standard control system.
A wireless connection can be affected in everyday use by various factors, such as connection drops, signal interference, delays, or operating errors. A smartphone battery, an app connection, or an accidental touch of the mobile device can also create additional uncertainty. What may still be acceptable for other devices is, in our view, not the best standard solution for a mobility aid.
With a powered wheelchair, reliable and immediate control takes priority. That is why we prefer a classic, wired main control directly on the wheelchair. It is simpler, more direct, and in our view the safer choice for everyday use.
Additional wired rear control for accompanying persons
At the same time, we know there are situations in which an accompanying person should or must provide support. That is why, if needed, we can also offer an additional wired rear control. This allows an accompanying person to help control the wheelchair from behind, which can be very practical in certain everyday situations.
This solution is suitable, for example, when users need temporary support or when family members and caregivers want to accompany certain routes more safely. Here too, we rely on a wired solution, because it enables clearer and more reliable control in the field of mobility aids.
Our conclusion
The fact that ByteTecpeak powered wheelchairs come as standard with a joystick on the armrest is a deliberate decision. It stands for safety, direct control, ease of use, and everyday practicality. Bluetooth control may seem technically interesting, but for us it is not the right standard solution for a powered wheelchair.
